I had a points reservation and my NUAs cleared into the Marvelous Suite at 3 day mark. However on day of check-in I saw the room revert to the booked Wonderful King room in the app and that is what I was given at check-in. There was no acknowledgement of this downgrade upon arrival and when I asked about it the clerk said the suite was out of order and it had been “reported to customer service”. They gave me a single drink voucher and sent me on my way. There were no higher rooms available for sale so it seemed like they had just oversold and there was no point in arguing. Late check-out was offered but not needed. They also asked me to pick a tarot card which resulted in me winning a cloth bag with the W Logo on it. There was a pre-mixed bottled cocktail in the room as a welcome gift.
The room was in the new build portion of hotel behind the historic front part, it was very generic and could have been anywhere, with alley views of nearby buildings. The functional design was also poor with no ability to access the closet and “bathroom” at the same time. The sink counter in the main area also served as worktop with small stool on back side of it while the very narrow and shallow vessel sink splashed water all over the wall and counter anytime it was used. The TV could only be viewed from bed, not the chaise lounge. The glasses on minibar setup were full of dust and worse for the cocktail pitcher, though the rest of the room was clean with dozens of touch up paint spots visible. The sensor controlled toilet lights blasted on full strength with any movement in the night resulting in very unpleasant experiences. The wifi also frequently reset requiring new login on each device.
I chose breakfast as amenity and it was served in a beautiful space. There was a basic display of breads, yogurts & fruits as well as an la carte menu you could order from which included a number of hot dishes. On Sunday the upstairs was open and there was an ancillary buffet up there as well and it was a little more peaceful than the ground floor. The W Lounge in the back had nice staff but the bar stool was wobbly and the place smelled strongly of smoke wafting in from the “garden”.
The location is central and close to trains and trams but the area in front of hotel is under a long-term construction plan which isn’t very pleasant. I wouldn’t return to this hotel and would try someplace else should I ever return to Prague.
