Onload List vs Standby List vs Upgrade List

I’m staring at the standby and upgrade list and I’m quite confused really. I know/think there is a single onload list which combines all the various priorities for getting onto the plane, but the wiki above makes no reference to that, so I was wondering if anyone knows how this works.

So according to the ac app, the flight is full in all cabins. There’s a few people on the upgrade lists (both business and PY), and then there’s 10 people on the standby list.

Am I right in saying:
- If everyone who’s confirmed shows up to the flight, nothing happens in terms of upgrades/standby.
- If there are no-shows in the Y cabin, nothing happens on the upgrade list and people from the standby list get cleared onto the flighy
- If there are no-shows in the higher cabins, people on the upgrade list get cleared into the higher cabin and people from the standby list get cleared into Y. (Or in this case, would someone on standby clear directly into the higher cabin? Does it depend on the status/various priorities of the person on standby vs the person confirmed in Y who’s upgrading, or does the person who’s confirmed get priority over the standby for upgrades?)

Also, I’m a little confused about the reason/cause for so many standbys in the flight place. The flight’s already full, so there’s little chance of clearing people right? Are most of these people likely to be:
- non-revs or family of the crew, etc?
- passengers in overbooking?
- crew for the return/other flights?
- passengers on other itineraries who choose to standby for this flight “just in case”?
