All right so I’m a new cardholder, and a complete moron. I didn’t realize that any hotel you book through AMEX travel was not a FHR property. Thankfully, I saw the fine print tonight in my confirmation email so I didn’t show up blathering about my early checkin and $100 credit. Prior to all of this I had a reservation at this hotel via an employee/family rate but cancelled due to me thinking I could get my statement credit, etc. before the end of the year. For a difference of about $200. I didn’t see the option to add my loyalty number when I booked but called the hotel and asked to have it added. Reservation still never showed up in my trips. So my question is, should I bother giving my number at checkin, do I even get points booking through “regular” AMEX travel (aka expedia)? I know you don’t if you book through Delta stays to get the $200 statement credit on the DL AMEX reserve. I am eligible for a couple of elite benefits as well……had I booked directly through the hotel. I’m sure this has been covered before, but hopefully someone will learn from my blunder. I’m wondering if I can still get points/benefits I would normally get as a hotel loyalty member or if I’m completely screwed.
