KLM offering chargeable vacant seat at checkin

My first time seeing this new monetisation on the seat map at online checkin with KLM, an offer to a free vacant neighbouring seat (presumably, also offered to the other person in the row);

This seems to be new and only half realised, first by the half-translation into french, but on this occasion also we are 2 passengers on the booking + a lap infant, and it's offering to split us to have a vacant seat despite there being rows of 3 available. I'd actually have been happy to pay this, even for each passenger, if we could have a free middle seat to put the toddler on. An upgrade to business in this case would be a way to get the middle seat but there are no free rows available - of course i wouldn't place the toddler or occupy the vacant middle seat when there was someone not in our travel party in the row.

Has anyone selected the option then been able to do the same for the other passenger in the booking to snag a row of 3 for 2 pax?
