Anyone know why some flights have four digit AY7xxx flight numbers? These seem to be bookable normally too. Like AY7056 from ARN to HEL a couple of times a week. All the other ARN-HEL flights are three digit AY8xx flight numbers.
AY7XXX flights are extra services added after the initial schedule has been published or temporary flights. They are usually used during peak travel seasons or to provide additional departure times for connections. These flights typically don’t operate for very long; if they do, they’re added into the regular schedule and end up adopting a standard flight number.
