Award flight skiplagging last leg

I'm looking to fly from North America to Paris in the summer in J. Of course, the availability is sparse. But what I see are some married segments that have decent pricing. So imagine
US -> CDG -> Rennes
or
US -> CDG -> Marseilles

Reading a bit on here and on reddit, I understand the strategy is carry-on only, and then just walk out the CDG airport. Some have even said that flying blue customer support has said it's "OK".

I fly air france exactly once a year and almost exclusively on award tickets, so upsetting them is risky. The conventional wisdom is don't do it often but I don't fly often. If I do this exactly once a year, is that too much? (I haven't done it at all before)
