Good thing I "had time to use CLEAR"
The extra delay probably meant I "broke even" vs using the Pre line, instead of saving a minute or two

There have been a few times that I've opted to go through Pre-Check rather than CLEAR at SFO. The single clear lane being fed to the one TSA agent has been annoying at times.
However, yesterday, at my 5 AM arrival, I was pleasantly surprised to experience the new CLEAR Gate in charge of the process. After the face scan kiosk, you proceed to the CLEAR Gate and are scanned again before the gate opens. No more dealing with the CLEAR agent using their device that sometimes would synch or not with the TSA device or just having to show my ID anyway.
They still need to work on the screening area setup though.
