British Airways Holidays (BAH) Tier Points guide (post April 2025)
There have been so many posts about tier points with British Airways Holidays that we thought it would be good to collect everything into a single thread for reference.
If you have your own experience to share , want to post feedback, see corrections, have recommendations for the main post, or want to ask questions then this is the thread, you are most welcome to post.
The quotes in
italics are from British Airways terms and conditions are correct as of the date of this post - every effort will be made to incorporate any updates to the T&Cs.
What is a Qualifying BAH?
For the purposes of qualifying for earning tier points there are several conditions that must be met:
- A qualifying holiday is any “Flight + Hotel” , “Flight + Car” or “Flight + Hotel + Car” booking made with British Airways Holidays in one transaction, where only one total price is shown and prices of the elements such a "flight" and/or "hotel/car" aren't shown.
We have seen posters add hotel or car components after booking the flight and not getting the tier points expected for a BAH - that is because they have not booked in one transaction.
We have also seen posters who have booked a valid BAH but made a change to it and subsequently invalidated the booking - care needs to be taken when changing an existing BAH.
- The holiday components do not need to be at the same dates - for example you can book a hotel with flights months later.
- You do not need a return flight to qualify for a BAH. A one-way flight with car/hotel booked at the same time qualifies.
- British Airways Holidays tier points awards do not apply to "Shopping Basket" bookings which include individually priced flight and hotel and/or car components, or when added in Manage my Booking after the flight has been booked.
Also take note of the following
- Bookings can only contain one flight departing from their country of residence and departure, multiple journeys from this country within one booking will not qualify.
- You do not need to book the hotel or car component for the duration of the holiday - there is no minimum length of time you need to book those for.
How to book a BAH?- Simple itineraries - you can book BAHs online at British Airways Holidays
- Complex itineraries - you can book custom BAHs online at Custom Trip - note you must book flights+hotel or flights+car at the same time. It will not qualify as a BAH if you add hotel after booking flights.
- Over the phone - the advantage is that you get 24 hours cooldown over the phone during which you can cancel or change itinerary free of charge. (This applies to residents of UK or Ireland).
How many tier points should be expected for a BAH?- Earn 1 tier point for every £1 of eligible spend on British Airways Holidays but...
- Tier points will be evenly split between the number of people on the booking. Infants under two will not earn tier points.
- The total cost of the holiday package will be divided equally among all individuals on the booking, excluding infants, regardless of whether they are staying for the full duration or only using one element of the holiday package.
- The total eligible spend for bookings made in a currency other than GBP will be converted to GBP using the OANDA rate of exchange, calculated on the date the booking was made.
- If there are multiple parties on the same booking but each using different components of the holiday the tier points are still divided evenly regardless.
- Note that if any member of the booking does not have their BAC number attached to the booking, those tier points will be lost and not allocated to the rest of the people on the booking.
- Tier points will not be earned on any other cash component associated to a ticket or booking, including government or airport taxes and fees, credit card surcharges, service or change fees.
If Avios was used to reduce the cost of the holiday:
- You'll earn tier points based on the total cost of your holiday package (excluding any charges payable at the accommodation) before the saving using Avios was applied.
How many Avios should be expected for a BAH?- Collect 1 bonus Avios for every £1 spent on a holiday with British Airways Holidays
- Flights earn additional distance-based Avios as well as tier points - you can find out using Avios and Tier Points Calculator
- BA has a number of car rental partners that offer an additional Avios boost: Avios for Car Rental.
Add your Avis number to the BAH and then access your car reservation on the Avis app. You can see the car cost there to calculate the bonus Avios for the car.
- Bonus Avios are only awarded to The British Airway Club members who are registered in the United Kingdom (UK). For flights + hotel or flights + car bookings the flight element of the booking must originate in the member's registered country (UK) to be eligible for Bonus Avios. For example, a registered member from the UK, must start their eligible outward journey (British Airways or British Airways codeshare flight) from a UK airport.
Can bonus tier points be awarded for the flights?- Yes if the flights have a BA, AA, or IB prefix. No if not (a codeshare is not sufficient, the flight needs to be marketed and sold by BA, AA, or IB).
Partners that codeshare can market their partner's flight for sale and that effectively means sell seats under their own airline code.
For
qualifying bonus tier points you need to have the flight with a
BA , AA, or IB prefix (so that is has been marketed and sold by BA, AA, or IB).
You can confirm this in Manage My Booking -
the flight number must have a BA prefix otherwise no bonus tier points.
How to calculate expected bonus tier points for non-BA operated flights?- You need to use the BA calculator for this : Avios and Tier Points Calculator
- Note that you cannot book flights that are Semi-flexible or Flexible as they are reserved for online flight bookings.
1. Select British Airways (this always includes bonus tier points) and calculate for your route
2. Select any other airline for the same route.
3. Subtract to get expected bonus tier points.
This sometimes works out in your favour (BA can award more points than expected) as we have seen but in general this is what to expect.
What to do if the expected number of tier points for a BAH has not been received?- Flights extra tier points: Avios and tier points will be credited within 3 days of your British Airways flight. For partner airlines, please allow up to 7 days.
- BAH tier points: All passengers who have added a British Airways Club membership number prior to travel will receive their tier points within 7 working days of their trip completing.
- This means the latest component of the holiday must complete before tier points are awarded - this is a good method to postpone allocation into the next collection year.
- BAH tier points are posted on Fridays.
This example has 4 flights, 2 on BA, 2 on BA-marketed QR
Flight 1 on BA
Flight 2 on BA-marketed QR
Flight 3 on BA-marketed QR
Flight 4 on BA

If you still haven't received the expected tier points there may be many reasons, please feel free to post details in this thread.
Can a GUF be used with a BAH and if so how many tier points to expect?
Yes you can use a GUF with a BAH and you will get tier points according to the original fare class not the upgraded one.
- The advice here is to book both at the same time (over the phone) so that you don't get blocked by subsequent lack of availability and be forced to change flight/date
- GUFs can be used on AA operated flights as well as BA operated flights
How are tier points for children awarded for a BAH?- British Airways define children as being between the ages of 2 and 18.
- Children can earn tier points in the same way as adults (one condition is that they need to be part of a household account).
- Infants (under 2 ) cannot earn tier points - the division of tier points for a BAH between passengers on the booking does not include infants.
- We are seeing that these tier points do not necessarily post correctly so you will need to check and if necessary call up to resolve.
Can I book a hotel that is in a chain where I have membership in a BAH?- It is possible - if you cannot see your hotel chain in the options, you will need to call to investigate availability.
- You should be aware that your hotel membership number will not be attached to the BAH by default so you will need to do this separately using the hotel chain app, calling member services, or asking the hotel directly.
