I rented a truck at LAX and they told me I HAVE to take the truck. This tread says I can either accept or choose a car from UC. I fought for a while at the counter but gave up. What gives?
What gives is that Hertz is not following their own stated policy.
This page says the following:
Now make a reservation. It’s worth noting that Ultimate Choice is only available at our airport locations. But we have a huge number of these, all across the country. You’ll also need to book using a credit card. To take advantage of Ultimate Choice, the rental car you reserve must be at least mid-size (economy and compact cars aren't included in the program). Make sure that you include your Hertz Gold Member number when booking.
The above highlighted text seems pretty clear that as long as you book something other than an economy or compact car, you should be eligible for UC. Some Hertz staff at certain locations have a different interpretation. It is what it is. That's just Hertz.
