Pictures of the wing slat damage do look a little alarming though. How does that just happen inflight?
Not the first time its happened to an A380. Emirates has had a similar issue.
And note this aircraft had done a 5hr test flight then flown AUH-LAX-SYD and most of the way back to LAX, so the timing of the slat issue and its first passenger flight is just coincidence.
My understanding is OQC was at some point in its five year rest refurbed, so all the business seats were brand new, just I guess hadn't been tested under a full passenger load, so that was more likely some gremlin that only showed itself under load, rather than something an engineer might know about.
