You are confusing duty free limits with liquid restrictions. 2L of booze is fine, or even more, so long as one declares it upon arrival. The restrictions on booze in the hold relate to highly flammable proofs, that's it. Accordingly, you could fly with 150 proof in the hand baggage, but nothing more than 140 proof in the hold.
Not really the point I was making.
It doesn't matter what the security liquid limits are if you can't take your item into the country you're heading to. So I would firstly check that what I want to travel with is allowed into the country before considering whether I can get it through security.
For example, one can take all the sausages and cheese one likes through security in France but, technically, none of it is allowed into the UK.
