Excessive "Taxes" Applied to Chase Travel Hotel Booking?
I rarely book via 3rd parties, but decided to check Chase travel to possibly apply my $50 CSP credit to a one night booking (IC Kansas City). The results showed a rate of $409, $269 plus $140 taxes. The details display did not break down the taxes. The "taxes" seemed outrageous. I checked the IHG site and see there the same room at $268.50 which includes an arena and destination fee, then a list of actual taxes that adds up to $49.63.
Perhaps this is an error in the Chase site, or perhaps they are jacking the rate up by claiming it as incremental tax. Is this something that is well known and just part of the landscape with these 3rd party sites and with Chase in particular? I was able to use the credit in previous years without noticing this. I know that these sites set the price differently than the hoteliers, but adding expense to the "tax" item seems possibly illegal.
