Like DW, I've been a Citi Private Bank client since I was a junior associate at a big law firm nearly 20 years ago, but have generally kept my assets at another institution. I assumed I would be eligible for the first year fee credit of $595, and opted into the Strata Elite on that basis. But when I didn't see a credit apply, I called and was told I am not eligible because Citi Private Bank is a different relationship tier than Citi Private Client. I had apparently incorrectly assumed that a client of the Citi Private Bank would be a Citi Private Client, but apparently these are two completely different things. Live and Learn I guess.
Forgot about this perk. Looks like they've changed it over the years. It used to be more lucrative for the Citi Prestige.
