  • Y+ is a standard economy seat with extra legroom. There may be some differentiation in soft product (like F&B or amenity kits), but the hard product is identical to Y except for the additional legroom.
  • W is a different product altogether with a more comfortable seat (wider with fewer seats per row as well as more legroom and often more recline).
AS/HA/DE don't have a W product, only Y+. AA/CX/QF have a true W product. Not the same thing at all.

And don't let the name fool you. DE calls their Y+ product "Premium Economy", but that doesn't make it W.
Yes not the same thing at all. And AS will be intruding a W cabin because the market will demand it.

AS are going to find long haul international tough going (just look at the BOGO offers on the NRT and ICN routes already).

W is known to be the most profitable cabin for an airline. It takes up minimal extra space when compared to Y, you only have to elevate the inflight service by a couple of dollars and you get to upgrade the price by something around $1,500 per seat (BA SFO-LHR is c. $700 in Y, it is normally north of $2,000 in W). This is the reason BA, AA, DL et al have all increased their W cabins with cabin refreshes.

They will keep the current "premium" extra 4 inches of legroom seats. They will end up marketing them a bit like VS does if they are sensible.
