I noticed in the terms it says “Reservations must be made by the primary cardmember. Reservations can be made in the primary cardmember’s or Authorized User’s names.”
But I wasn’t sure if that was enforced somehow or if you’re able to change the name of the guest to anyone you’d like.
I did this. My wife and I headed to Japan and she was leaving first with me joining a few days later. I booked the reservation on the portal and made a note that she would be checking in. The hotel saw the note and she checked in no problem. On Citi's end, the 300 credit was applied instantly at booking. As long as the hotel allows your guest to check in I have no idea how Citi would enforce this restriction since they give you the credit immediately at booking instead of charging you the full amount and then providing a statement credit later. If you try this, I'd just call the hotel (since you should always confirm with the hotels directly when booking with a portal) and make sure they understand your guest would be checking in. If they allow it, you should be good to go.
