I have a booking with BA for next May and BA cancelled the outbound flight. It was the more expensive evening flight and, when I checked the options on MMB, BA is only proposing to either refund (I still need to go on that trip so that's not an option) or to rebook onto the morning flight. As I can't make the morning flight, I reached out to BA via the chat for other options (since other airlines do serve the same route).
However, that's where things took a turn for the worse. Despite both BA and the UK GOV's website stating that airlines have to rebook onto other airlines, the agent flat-out refused to rebook onto a non-BA flight.
I formally raised a complaint with BA but wanted to know if anyone has achieved the seemingly impossible to be rebooked onto another airline. And I do get that BA may have to change its schedule from time to time. However, I don't see why I should now be footing the bill for it. If BA had been straightforward about it from the start, then I wouldn't have booked with them and would have booked directly with one of the other operators that have evening flights on that route. Even if I request the refund and book new flights myself, then those flights costs 100s more.

That's why I was asking about experiences of being rebooked by BA on other airlines. It's ludicrous of BA to not be proactive in these situation.
Wait for the fares to drop. May is low season and fares are likely to go lower closer to your travel date. Currently you have fully flexible BA ticket. Much easier just to cancel/ask for full refund and book on your own with another airline once fares are lower. BA will not rebook OAL when there is a morning BA service to your destination (and is most likely not required to under the UK261, although this issue is not clear/hasn't been clarified)
