I stayed here a couple of days ago and though I report back as it has been a couple of months since the last post / report. The hotel is in Hoofddorp, one stop by train from Schiphol International Airport. The hotel does not provide a shuttle service to the airport anymore. Instead, you can take the train. If you leave at the end of the platform, you are closer to the hotel (as mentioned by
Schwann in
this post) There are no elevators or escalator though, but a ticket machine is in the underpass asa well.
The hotel offers larger rooms at the corner of the L shaped building. During my many stays there, I was never upgraded to one of those as Diamond (and I know, there are no obligatiuons by the hotel to do so). The rooms on the top floor facing the street and tracks are slightly wider but less deep. I stayed in one of those these times. There are also room with the usual layout.
Check-In could be very busy. Usually there are two agents on duty except during off peak times or on days with lower occupancy. As I checked in around 20:50 on a Wednesday Evening only one agent was available and hie was busy. it took some minutes before it was my turn. The agent thanked me for being a Diamond Members. I was only offered a free beverage and a snack, though my preference was set to points (drink was only at the bar and not to take to the room. Honestly this is my experience with this Hampton contrary to other experiences noted in this stay).
As a sidenote, if you stay for more than just one night, you can skip housekeeping and get a free drink at the bar for each day you skip housekeeping.
A small gym is located on the first floor of the hotel and open 24/7.
Breakfast has less variety than other Hampton Inn hotel and is in my opinion weak. There were scrambled eggs, chicken sausages and pancakes as hot items, salami, cheese, salad and a selection of bread and rolls. A small selection of fruit, yoghurt and cereals was also available. Tea and coffee were self-service. Quality was not the best.
My room was on the fifth floor which is the top floor. It does - as mentioned above - not follow the standard layout. You step into the room and there is a small wardrobe. This area is very narrow. To the left is the room with the bead facing the window. Two beside tables with lamps and light switches. The small desk is opposite the bed and in front of the window. There is also the large TV and tea and coffee facilities (kettle). Window could be opened, but it was a bit difficult to reach.
The bathroom is mall and comes with toilet, sink and shower. The sink has place to store some utensils but is somewhat small. Water pressure of the shower was weak, but the glass panel was better shaped and positioned than in other hotels, so water was not dripping on the floor while taking a shower; the weak water pressure helped. One large and one medium sized towel were provided in the bathroom. Another set was placed at the closet. The mirror was heated, which was nice.
The rooms feature the usual a grey-green, brown colour scheme. Space is a very limited, especially at the entrance and placing the armchair makes it hard to access the room. The room showed its age and scratches and stains at wall and furniture were clearly visible.
The room does offer two plugs at the desk, but no USB charging ports.
The layout of the room is not really my most favourite one, the area at the entrance is cramped and packed (I have a love-hate relation with these rooms; I like the higher floor and large windows, but I dislike the interior design and arrangement of entrance and furniture). There is hardly any place to store a larger trolley and a luggage rack was missing in the room. In addition at least one of the sockets at the desk should be changed to one with a USB plug like in newer hotels.
The bed is comfortable. Curtains do block the light completely. Windows could be opened, but there is some noise from the street and the tracks. Sound proofing is good, if the windows are closed.
A late check-out was offered without problems. WiFi was stable and VPN and Video Conference was not problem at all.
