If I book an award ticket VIE to ORD to DFW using Air Canada miles, and the first leg is on Austrian Air and the second leg is on United, I know I get a free checked bag on the Austrian leg. What about on the United flight from ORD to DFW?

I have no status with United or a Chase United credit card.

Also, when and how would I get a seat assignment on the United leg?
