I'm about to retire and won't have company paid travel anymore. I'm thinking of the best strategy to maintain Diamond as I like many of their European hotels and lounges. (I currently do have a million Hilton points.)
I am not sure it's worth it for many EU hotels but Hilton are reasonably strong here in the UK so it's a useful hedge sometimes for me. That said there are some useful locations like the Munich Airport property that aren't well served by the alternatives.
The Diamond year runs until March in the year of expiry. So if for example your diamond status expires in March 26 then if you do enough stays between January and March 26, (30 individual nights/day room bookings) then you requalify through March 28. Obviously this reduces to 25 stays now so a little easier.
By mixing evening and day stays at different properties in relatively close proximity in cheaper locations you can bump your stay count really quickly to the point that it's possible to get 14 credited stays in a 7 day period.
