Has the process of taking all orders and then reconciling based on status been discontinued?
CC did say that they had 20 turkey dinners available for a full load in biz of 56.

This was just one of several failings which left the whole flight an experience to be endured rather than enjoyed.
I got the Christmas Dinner on the AUS flight the day before. I had no idea there were limited quantities. It's possible my status ensured I got my choice but I didn't hear anyone get told anything was unavailable.

Otherwise your characterization of the flight as "an experience to be endured rather than enjoyed" was spot on. Bus gate, standing outside in cold and drizzle, no printed menus, visible impatience when one asked for clarifications about the meal and wine choices (how else are we to know?), amenity kits impossible to open, Club Suite door wouldn't close, zero proactive service between meals, Club Kitchen remains a joke (shortbread cookies, cashew and raisin mix, crisps, and candies was it, and that was mostly wiped out mid flight), ice ran out mid flight.

BA has slipped, not only in absolute terms, but relative to even the likes of KLM. I reported on a very nice AMS-AUS flight a few weeks ago. If it wasn't for the convenience of the AUS nonstop, and the AA relationship, I would not consider BA for long haul.

Here are some pix:

Amenity kit. The little plastic thing in the zipper was stronger than the material around it. The same with my wife's kit, although the material tore in a different way.

Tray setup and salmon starter. Not sure what was inside the salmon ring. The dark matter on the left turned out to pulverized black olives. Quite revolting. Bread and salad were good.

Christmas Dinner. Turkey was all white meat and dry. The teaspoon of stuffing was virtually tasteless. The veggies, including some kind of purple cabbage underneath all of it, were tasty. For dessert I got the fresh fruit which, while a small portion, was surprisingly fresh and high quality.

Arrival meal choices were this ham and cheese sandwich or a focaccia with mushrooms and something else. My wife got the latter and reported that it was awful. She didn't hear the "mushroom" part over the plane noise. My choice was OK, but since nearly 7 hours had elapsed since lunch I was starving. I think the little condiment was marmite. Whatever happened to Afternoon Tea?
