The point is: it's random if your status will mean you are treated special. Part of the thing that airlines are selling us with status is that you are treated special, get extra perks, and so on. It appears that you really aren't treated differently most of the time (if I can distill this thread), so that if you are expecting that kind of special treatment with Flying Blue beyond the published perks, you shouldn't pursue Platinum/Ultimate status.
