All that said, I have never actually seen it work like that, because I have always managed to find a flight where I can clear into DPS at booking.
One last question related to my OP.
I am flying JFK-LAX-AKL in December and have the GUC applied to the LAX-AKL leg (still waitlisted for PS). I am debating on calling DL to add the GUC to the entire JFK-LAX-AKL. I have a 3.5 hour layover in LAX. My concern about adding the GUC to the JFK-LAX leg is that if something happens to this flight or LAX-AKL and I am confirmed in PS or D1 for JFK-LAX, then I will lose the GUC for LAX-AKL. Does this make sense? What are everyone's thoughts? I am in C+ on JFK-LAX.
