Someone else made a comparison to the $100 Edit credits, but that's given by the hotel. And that's not Chase specific. That's true whether the credit is part of a hotel package through CC or a travel agent.

I'm making the point because we see a lot of DPs posted here that later turned out to be untrue because people make assumptions based on what seemed logical to them or use fuzzy math.
Mainly the $100 Edit property credit, as stated in the post you quoted. I have stayed at Edit hotels 5-6 times, and all of them have not included tax and service charge against the $100 property credit; whether via an on-site restaurant or otherwise. When I saw a restaurant credit that was roughly reduced by the tax and tip on said restaurant charge, I assumed that was why. It turns out it was because there was a phantom charge to an random ice cream shop a month ago for the difference between the credit and the $150 maximum.

You asked for my reasoning for why I originally thought it broke out taxes and tip. I gave it to you. The conclusion and data point here is that the restaurant credit is based of the headline value charged, though be wary of previous phantom credits should you not get an expected amount.
