I don't even think its a translation error. I think they just deleted too much in the haste to get rid of the stain of Sonder.

I will say I was in Japan for basically all of November and part of October and was pro-actively offered a 4PM checkout at almost every hotel from a Moxy to Marriott (I'm not ...... enough for anything fancier for a month) and never had a request denied. This is part of why I think this was an error is many of these stays were after the change and every hotel explictly asked me if I wanted a 4PM checkout. Even when I only needed noon or 1PM, they said something like "we'll put it a 4Pm just in case."
