There are 3 major reasons why folks don't switch to IHG, even though IHG has rollover nights as its offering.

- 1
To quote some bloggers : "IHG properties are nothing to get excited about and are not aspirational compared to luxury offerings of Hyatt and Marriott, IHG = meh! "

- 2
Creditcards core focus at US folks at Hyatt, Hilton, Marriott : meaningful status with ease of creditcards or extremely fasttrack towards elite qualiftying nights for hotel status by creditcard stacking or spend. Bloggers: "IHG mid tier status is nothing to get excited about, why the hassle with roll over elite nights status qualification when the competition offers lucrative creditcards with ease"

The psyche of the IHG stayer seems to be a different kind of bird of a prismatic plumeau.
Read our forum versus the fora other chains. Wheras most folks here are true BIB (butt in bed) stayers accustomed to dealing with IHG directly out of no nonsense practically, US folks tend to gravitate towards the booking using intermediate services of Travel Agents, Virtuoso, AMEX fine hotel and resorts, Capital 1, Rakuten, AA hotels and other portals to lock in benefits. Other chains funnel a lot of business via those partners to capture/retain/entice US customers so the art of rollover elite qualifying nights is considered less important as customers seem to prefer the offerings of sanctioned 3rd party for benefits.

YMMV ofcourse
but if i talk to my sister;
" of IHG,
yes those are dependeable hotels for an overnight but it feels like a comfortable old shoe instead of Cedric Grolet must-haves worth queueing up for "
in reference to devotionalia 24/7 waiting in anticipation at https://cedric-grolet.com/en/
And my twin brother;
" as usual you are a bit of a numbskull of our family bloodline , hah, no AMEX Centurion for you or even any platinum, so you can't use AMEX portals and you keep stubornly resisting to the magic of Virtuoso/TA to lock in benefits even while those rates are still elite qualifying, even my flaunting of the superior benefits of Hyatt's WOH GOH doesn't sway you to switch, so no wonder... IHG seems as backwards historical challenged as you and offers no inovations or entrancements to charm future prospects".

So you see, it's all in the eye of the beholders and perception in value.

And the fact that the market is divided in:
or focus on co branded creditcard partnership revenues and intermediaries/commisionaries/portals,
or favouring the direct B&BIB customer, those guests with butts and boobs in bed staying at hotels booking direct.

Other might have more insights in this matter.
