IHG last program with "rollover" nights; and 2026 strategy
Point of View (PoV): non-USA citizen/resident, no USA LLC, no USA credit cards giving some instant status (all night earned via butt-in-bed)
Rollover nights: Hyatt, Marriott, Radisson/Best Western/Accor (who cares ), now Hilton ...no longer have rollover nights .......but IHG does
1. will this cause some ppl to switch to IHG ?
2. what if IHG removes rollover nights in 2026 as other programs have done (especially if you switched to IHG because of it) ?
What is IHG program without rollover nights?
a. Milestones? still exist, and they start at night 20, but they are "level" (except a few key nights levels eg. 40 and 70) the more nights you stay ...IHG takes you for granted vs rewarding more the people who stay longer; milestones max at 100 nights (and nothing more at night 100 ... IHG should analyze number of loyalty members nights per year and choose some number of nights at 100 or more where relatively few members achieve and provide something or more/extra value versus the same amount a lesser nights)
b. Lifetime? still bad that there is no Lifetime ... so, why bother with IHG for the long haul
c. Points Transfer? if you want to transfer points (and you're not Diamond) 5 cents per thousand, cough it up buddy-loyalty member, even if you've stayed 00's of nights and therefore already "paid" to get those points, no you must pay again, just to gift those points to someone who might spend more
2026 Strategy:
pay with Points (problem is that not many good values anymore) ...... before they get further devalued ...see how close it gets to Diamond, take it from there
Kudos to IHG Diamond & Tech support teams for the few stays in 2025:
1. very fast response, getting it corrected, on first iteration (second iteration on the APP not accepting my login credentials)
2. IHG continues to be honourable ...when IHG makes an error, at their initiative, they compensate
.... in contrast, HYATT does NOT compensate, even with the, in my experience, counter-productive Concierge who has created and/or confused and/or aggravated error-situations .... and you need to hold your ground, and request the compensation
