You can always book rooms for non-elites that include the club/lounge access, if you have members of your party who do not have status. That way, you can access by virtue of status, and others can access based on having booked a club-level room.

Bit dramatic, no??

I've never experienced or heard of most guests aggressively trying to scam the hotel lounge.

That said, if you're entitled to stay in the lounge with one fellow guest staying in the same room, I think the hotel has every right to charge you an additional lounge guest fee as you occupied the lounge with more people than what your stated contract was.
