For me, when checking in the machine offers me Fast Bag as an option. I suspect Star Golds don’t see that option. If OP wants to try this I suggest checking in with an agent and asking nicely - I’ve had that work (although only sometimes) when travelling with a non-Elite and wanting them to use Fast Bag too.
