Very unfortunate situation, I booked award ticket months ago, but had to do a date change on the ticket. Because of the date changed, the ticket was re-issued, and QR insists I now have to pay for seat selection

Im thinking to cancel the QR ticket, and book award ticket on the same flights through BA, does anyone know if that will give me free seat selection, or if there any disadvantages of booking through BA?
