The point of milestone bonuses done well is to give me the 'this is what you could have won' from the next status up and encourage me to put more spend your way, £30 worth of Avios, an amount I could secure through a few months shopping at Sainsbury's, or a Wine Flyer order, really doesn't do that.
Interesting this - last earning year, I was encouraged enough to reach for a GUF2 by flying a few more sectors to reach 2,500TPs. As I realised this was possible after BA announced the changes, naturally I made sure I did so on QR rather than reward IAG with more direct money

.
But I contrast that with the current offering and there is absolutely no incentive to even attempt to reach a milestone. Contrast this with IHG, where I expect to reach between 95 and 100 nights this year. Starting at 20 nights, every 10 (up to 100) I get various bonuses worth between about $35 and $220 in tangible value depending on milestone, and intangible value several times more in terms of Annual Lounge access at two points - use that in San Francisco compared to eating out in the city and you can really start saving serious money. IHG are probably paying the hotel relative peanuts every time I redeem a voucher, but the benefit to me - and them in repeat business - is enormous. BA - not so, and having rediscovered QR for the first time in about 5 years to trigger than GUF, I would actively avoid BA on routes where there are other options, and I'll be crediting to MH Enrich. Quite how this benefits BA is McK's guess.
