(I wasn't involved in this survey, but to me it's just trying to calibrate customer reaction to a variety of different factors, all else being equal.)

But my point stands regarding the principle of differentiating XP per fare brand, and finding ways to encourage our elite members to still find a reason/value in buying up from the lowest fare offered. Put simply - basic Y fares in Europe are meant to offer a product that competes with FR, U2, etc. The 0 XP is essentially us saying to our elite members, We don't want you buying this, but we won't 'punish' you if you do so (by preventing elite benefits from applying to this fare - like you see with some of our legacy competitors). Because of course, that's the other possibility: we can simply say, fine, you earn XP on these cheap Basic fares, but elite benefits don't apply. (This is more of the model you see from US carriers. )
Thank you for that insight Ben. It's the kind of thing that makes me appreciate FB, and you, a lot more.

I can definitely see the allure of differentiating XP across fare brands, and I won't rehash things here, because I'm sure you've read the many thoughts and ideas on what, besides differentiation, could push elites to buy up. As long as it is done in a way that is not punishing buying cheaper fares, that is ok. I absolutely understand incentivizing a repeat customer to buy more premium. This concept applies universally. But reading that 0XP on long-haul J fares is likely to be a pie-in-the-sky is a good outcome. Now if only you guys could fix the 0XP on AF/KL vs 2XP on Transavia, that'd be great for the parent brands because it really seems so odd. :-)

In any case, your words put my mind at ease and the thread is done for me! Hope you have a great holiday season ahead, Ben. As always, thank you for being engaged with all of us.
