Alternatively - and preferably - I could fly CX (I would prefer a HKG layover, and DOH layovers seem to be 45 mins which won’t do me any favours pre the long second leg). However isn’t CX woeful with tbe nTPs allocation? I can’t get my head around how this would work so would welcome some clarity. (I have tried to break a CX metal on a 125 ticket but can’t seem to, but am anyway curious how OW nTPs work in practice).
thank you.
CX on a CX flight number is by distance and BA's Flightcalculator will tell you how much, remember to select CX as the airline. If you have a good priced fare it may not be very good on nTP as you have suggested, and if Finnair is cheaper you may get a lot more nTP since while they are also distance, it's twice the amount per bucket. You can construct BA metal to HKG and then there used to be codeshares on several airlines such that you end up in Australia or NZ on a BA flight number and thus BA nTPs, but I'm too low on caffeine to check if that is still the case. But a phone agent should also be able to find them if they know what they are doing, or a real travel agent. A BAH telephone agent should also be willing to construct BA flight numbers if there is a hotel involved.
