US domestic flight - Gold status - at the T-24 check in window now. 3 seats open and I occupy slots 3 and 4 on the list. I have 3 bags to check so I do not want to split my resy up (only allowed two bags plus my companion is a minor). I assume the computer will not process the upgrade due to tie in with companion and 1 seat left, so if I check in now and keep my companion on the upgrade list - does the gate agent need to split the resy in order to process an upgrade? FYI- I have other family on the same flight so minor will be fine.
