Overall, Oman Air are a puzzling airline to me. They seem to give with one hand and take with another.
What did they give? Well for Economy the hard product is excellent. The seat was very comfortable with excellent legroom, comfortable headrest and generally plenty of room. The food on the return flight MCT-LHR was very good as well, some curried fish with rice. The outbound LHR-MCT was the new daytime service which served breakfast (which was alright) followed by a snack later on.
And now comes the detractor from the trip. We deliberately selected a daytime flight out from London to avoid needing to sleep. Same for the return leg (didn't fancy the 1am departure....). On both legs, within ten minutes of takeoff, the dimmable 787 windows were completely blacked out and locked, with the cabin lights also turned off fully.
I could not understand this policy of blanking out the windows on a daytime service. In the end we managed to get a cabin crew member to unlock ours so we could enjoy the views of the Alps as we went over Europe.
On the return, I had to visit the galley to ask but was refused on the grounds of people "needing to sleep" (why not just hand out eye masks...??). I was even refused when it was nighttime and the sun was down.
Has anyone had this somewhat draconian approach to window control with WY? I've had some "slight dimming" mandated in the past on other airlines but never a full blackout, and certainly not on daytime flights.
it got nothing to do with passenger convenience or sleep
schedules and everything to do with lazy crew who want a quiet life and to limit passenger interaction. Not unique to WY however
