It's silly to believe rumors, but someone mentioned speaking to a Saks rep in store, and was told that they would be discontinuing their partnership in the future.
Who knows if this will actually come to fruition, but if Amex lost Saks, I'd still pay the annual fee and not cry too much.
Assuming some people actually use the card as their primary, Amex is making a got chunk of cash by keeping most spend at 1x
it is relatively easy for my CSR payout to be 2x on average
