We've speculated before that AFKL might start to give different levels of XP for different fare brands, and it seems, this is something they're definitely considering. I've received a survey today and look at the options below:
Of course, these are not currently real, but it is interesting to see a few things:
- These are all for a long-haul trip.
- Each fare type has a different number of XP.
- AF fares offer more XPs than KLM.
- KLM has a long-haul fare that offers 0 XP.
I was offered several fare types in the survey by KLM and AF. In every case, one of AF or KLM always had 0 XP options. There were even situations simulated where KLM offered no XP for any fare type, but AF did (and vice versa as well). I hope this was just an error in the way the survey was built.
Personally, I consider this a terrible development. To me it clearly indicates that XP differentiation between fare types is definitely on the way, and if they're truly considering 0 XP fares in business class on KLM, then it is clear that KLM is going the Ryanair way. Given that some of us are almost captive to KLM due to hub considerations, this would be truly a terrible development.
EDIT: Eventually I was presented a scenario where KLM had XP, but AF did not. It seems they're really trying to model if the XP is going to make a difference in our buying behavior.
