Was in paid first (not that the distinction really matters) on a short SFO to LAX flight a week or so ago during the shutdown. ATC delay of about an hour. Boarded quickly and plane was half empty.

No water at the seats. FAs stood around and chatted, never offered a pre-departure drink.

Winds at SFO changed directions so they had to change runways which is extra challenging with limited ATC staff. We sat on the tarmac for another 45 mins or so. Still no water, snacks etc. offered.

Took off, flight smooth as glass, seatbelt sign off, FAs NEVER got up, offered a beverage snack, etc. during the flight. But the BEST part is they came around to COLLECT GARBAGE before we landed. Huh?

Sent a note to Delta and they gave me an excessive amount of miles, honestly, well beyond what was really expected. I just wanted to voice my displeasure. They also called twice to apologize.

It really was utterly ridiculous and I'm putting it in the food/beverage thread only bc there was literally no food or beverage but at least they were able to get up and collect garbage, not that I had any.
Pretty standard on short flights. Service varies widely based on "turbulence" but mostly individual crew members' opinions and/or laziness. Sometimes the pilots tell FAs to stay seated.
