Eh, The Wellem isn’t my type of hotel - bad views and an overly modern take on a historic building don’t scream “luxury” to me as Hyatt seems to want to position Unbound properties as (I know this started off as a Hyatt House - it still has the HH logos on the keys). It’s not horrible, but I doubt I would return, especially as it’s more expensive than the also-imperfect-but-more-my-vibe Regency. Here are my impressions and photos:
Pros:
- Bed is generally comfortable - medium slightly firm but slightly plush mattress as is common in Germany, plush covers, plush pillows
- Shower pressure is usually good (more on shower later)
- Room is spacious
- Had to ask, but was able to get 3 PM checkout
- Breakfast is pretty good - warm croissants and good salmon, decent omelet ordered from server
Neutral:
- Was supposedly upgraded from Studio to Studio Suite - unclear to me what the difference is as the room photos online seem combined and confused - Executive Suite was available online but is listed as a premium suite
- Personal take - I don’t like the design of taking historic buildings and making them feel overly generic in the interiors (similar to Parisi Udvar in Budapest)
- No in-room welcome gift but given a voucher for wine, beer, or coffee
Cons:
- Shower had wild temperature and pressure fluctuations on my morning shower (did not occur the evening before)
- WiFi was not great and neither was mobile connectivity
- Elevators are on separate controllers and annoying to pick the “right one”
- Horrible view - based on where the hotel was, I’m not sure any rooms here have views
- Called about the shampoo running out, but they didn’t bring any up within about 30ish minutes - had to put on DND and take a shower with hand soap
- No real AC or airflow right now - a bit hot at night in bed
