The first impressions of Saudia at CDG were however not good.

Check-in is at the normal Saudia counter, no feeling of exclusivity. No escort is provided to facilitate passport control and security, and there is no special first class lounge.

Online check-in was not available but there was no line at the airport counter. With a "fast track" boarding pass in hand, the adventure began. Absolute chaos at departure passport control. It took about 40 minutes, which is an eternity. This is always a bad experience at CDG (Terminal 1 being the worst) but today was especially bad. The e-gates were not operational, and the passport booths were not fully staffed. By contrast, security was a breeze.

Saudia uses the Extime contract lounge. It's a fine lounge, especially for a contract lounge. Not too crowded and the food and beverage options were as one would expect. Again, there's no special lounge or section for first class passengers.

The overall Saudia ground experience at CDG is poor; there is no other way to put it.
