I don't check bags often, so want to check with the experts on checking a bag through on 2 separate tickets, all UA flights.

I have CVG->ORD on a separate ticket to position myself to take a separately ticketed ORD-LAX-BKK. Depart CVG at ~7AM. Depart ORD ~3:45PM. Total time in ORD is 8 hours 14 minutes.

From research, checking a bag through on 2 United itineraries seems fine, but will the 8hour + "connection" time in ORD cause any issues?
I obviously have plenty of time to pick up at baggage claim but worried they won't let me check a bag in 8 hours before my next flight, which means I would be stuck landside and babysitting bags all day.

Thoughts?
