What is your Priority Club status?
Diamond
Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
No
Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked 'We choose Premium Room when you arrive' was 2 Queen Premium, my TA contacted them multiple times to no avail to say I was one person only. Finally got King Premium Balcony with a view of Taipei 101 so cannot complain
How are the rooms?
Like the hotel, dark, dim and soulless. One master switch for lights and that's it, all or nothing. Low ceilings, analog HVAC thermostats (why are there 2 thermostats in a regular room?) and inefficient air conditioning, room was so damp! Water not very hot in shower unless you put it 100% hot
How is the exec. lounge?
N/A
What was good and what was bad?
Good- Location
- Regular staff (there seems to be one manager per staff member!) were warm and friendly, managers and front desk staff cold.
- One of the best breakfasts I have had at an IHG hotel and always got a nice table even when they were using overflow area. The document I signed when I checked in said breakfast for 2 so my brother joined me every morning (he was not a guest). Their stringent approach can work both ways and to their credit they did not charge me extra for him.
- Bed is very, very hard which I appreciate but I can see how some people can be put off by it.
Bad- I give more details in the Regent Taipei thread but it seems that if you are not a tour bus client ready to fill your shopping bags at the high end shops in the Regent Galleria, they could not care less about your business.
- Hotel is soulless and lacks any warmth, again I am not the target market
- Dark, dim hallways making hard to use the old school key and find your room.
- Bad soundproofing, the doors slam hard if you do not hold them. Given the supply closet right in front of my room (again, details in the Regent Taipei thread), constantly heard doors slamming and voices in the hallway. Hear the doorbells in the neighbouring rooms as well.
- Housekeeping (apart from turndown service) was awful at first. Every other hotel in this category that I stay at figures out that I leave my room early in the morning and the room is made by the time I get back. Not this place! First day I come back all sweaty from 20km of hiking to housekeeping entering my room at 1600. Waited in the lobby. Next day, same thing, still not done in the afternoon. I come in and put on the do not disturb light to take a nap, 5 minutes after I enter my room housekeeping is ringing the doorbell repeatedly to come in, ...! Sorted itself out on the third day forward.
- Their toiletries are their spa's house brand which is much inferior to the Byredo products.
- Only IHG hotel I have been at where the welcome drink is non-alcholic
. Also the first IHG hotel where I could not use my IHG Destined credit at the bar like everywhere else. Only at the Brasserie buffet can the voucher be used, the buffet is very good as i stated for breakfast but I am in Taipei, there is food everywhere, come on. Here is a tip, when I have a credit at a hotel and you let me use it at the bar, I usually wind up spending more than the credit, I am a lush!
- Possibly the worse hotel bar I have ever been at (Galleries). Soulless ambiance, overly fussy managers doing things by the book. I did not spend a penny there until the last night to give it another chance: ordered a glass of champagne, got the end of the bottle with no fizz. Made a face and got topped off with a fresh bottle (most hotels I have been at let you taste the opened bottle of champagne first, that is how you do it). Ordered some fries to munch on, got tepid fries on cold cast iron skillet. Kind of sums up the hotel.
- Check-out was curt and cold, not a question about my stay
Value for $ or Priority Club Points? Would you return?
I will never return to this hotel no matter the price and certainly not for the CAD$500/night I paid this time. Can't wait for the IC to open in 2026 to put this thing out of its misery.
