I mean if this is true, there is no real negative for me other than the fact that greater people with Diamond is likely to mean that the quality Asian and Middle East lounge benefits are likely to dry up.

I am just now sure any of these changes benefit Hilton or their owners to be fair. The only benefit I can see for Hilton is that they may concluded that, with the over-awarding of Diamond members by way of US credit card status, that they value a customer who stays 42 nights the same as someone who gets the status free with a credit card. Which I suppose does make sense.
