Yes, I get that many other airlines charge for J seat assignments at booking too, but as far as my experience goes, ITA is the only full-service long-haul airline that will charge for seat selection/changes to J seat assignments
within the check-in window. Unnecessarily petty IMO.

Their seat assignment fees are very annoying indeed. I recently had two longhauls in business class with them and was not in the mood to pay, would have been around $150 each time, even at online check in.
