it was my favorite weekend spot when I was living and working in Bangkok...but for longer than a weekend, for real vacation, I went somewhere else (beach: Phuket, Khao Lak, Koh Samui, Krabi, Trang etc.; landscape and sightseeing: Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Khao Kho, Kanchanaburi etc.)

it's a hotspot for pensioners (valuable alternative to Pattaya, cheaper than Phuket) and for short term vacationers from Bangkok

you have to make up your own mind, whether you like it or not
