I'm in preliminary planning for a 5 or 6 person SFO-YYZ trip next year. They could have a flight depart with 4 empty J seats, think "damn we can't sell all these", when in reality, they didn't have enough, so we booked something else.
It's too much of a niche route. Tier 2 market in population (19th in NA according to wiki...one step ahead of Montreal) yes, with more wealth, but still a relatively small base. San Diego is bigger and one could argue has more money (especially old money) but already has a lot less frequency and capacity.

Bottom line is this route in no where near important enough for AC to be considering when making fleet decisions. 4 daily flights 8 legs a day on what...600? 1% of flights?

I get it that you and a like one other person here have a high concentration of energy on this route and it does not fit your needs, but AC will basically plug the best/least worse fin on this route and move on. It's not worth any more energy to them than that.

And if that means that you spend your money elsewhere...AC won't care. And trust me... they won't miss it.
