That's a short-term solution given their cabin designs, but yes, I've suggested that many times.
But if they raise J prices, they still sell 14J, and still have 20+ empties in Y.
They could make more money adding more J (and selling it), and reducing the number of empty seats in Y (by shrinking the cabin).
I'm in preliminary planning for a 5 or 6 person SFO-YYZ trip next year. They could have a flight depart with 4 empty J seats, think "damn we can't sell all these", when in reality, they didn't have enough, so we booked something else.
