The only relevant stat here is the amount of long haul flights since the courtesy upgrades were introduced (2015 I believe), there is no CU on short-haul. 4 long-haul flights isn't really that much of a sample to go by.
Below my own stats as Diamond (4 years I believe), most flights I travelled alone.
- 5 long-haul flights booked in economy: 2 CU to premium economy
- 13 long-haul flights booked in premium economy: 3 CU to business class
So total about 28% CU.
To me the CU is an amazing perk, that I much prefer over e.g. 2 vouchers per year. It makes me actively book SAS over other airlines for long-haul flights.
I would
guess the following applies for increasing your chances of CU:
- No special meals/requests
- Travelling alone
- Routes less prone to sold-out premium cabins (e.g. not overnight flights)
- Aircraft with a high ratio of the cabin above you:
- A321: C 14%, Y 8%, E 78%
- A330: C 12%, Y 21%, E 66%
- A350 C 13%, Y 11%, E 76%
