What they should do is lower the nights/stays to get to each level, removing lounge entry for the old Diamond status but keeping the credit cards tied to this reduced Diamond level. Then create a level equivalent to the current Diamond level with a new name, let’s say Saphire for now, with Saphire needing 60 nights/30 stays, getting lounge access. LTD become LT Saphire.
Alternatively they could just keep the current system but stop giving Diamond away with credit cards, which is unlikely since Hilton makes money on this.
Another alternative is myself and many other Diamonds that earn our status by nights/stays just take our business elsewhere.
I like this idea a lot.
For
CC Diamonds, they'll still get breakfasts and (the rare) space-available upgrades. For
actual Diamonds, who rack up
60 nights/30 stays/120K base points, they get lounge access and higher upgrade priority.
As things stand now, for my 70 nights a year but <$18K spend, I'll basically get nothing I wouldn't get from just having the CC, which is crazy.
