I got a notification from EF that our long haul flight is U2. We were already waitlisted, but I contacted Finnair to get the upgrades. I was told that the upgrades are available, "but not for you". I was able to see the two seats in award booking, but we already had a paid ticket.
Did they accidentally show restricted (platinum?) upgrade inventory or what could have this been?

Would be interesting to hear what Pekka Antila Head of loyalty says about this, as he just the other week proudly announced this could never happen. Well, rather "we will never sell an upgrade if someone is on waitlist", but apparently they are fine ignoring waitlist and move on to sell awards to the public.
