On going in again this time I confirmed ok option and then quickly pressed the select your seats option before that page disappeared. I was then surprised to see that you could then change your seats. Any ideas what is going on?
Interesting. I have exactly the same for a LHR-IST return flight in Dec/Jan and managed to do what you did. The booking has been odd ever since I made it several months ago, and also can't see TPs/Avios. I've just POUG'd the return, which was available on the website, then wasn't, then was but then failed. Surprisingly I managed do it on the app - a process that took me through various designs of BA pages.

My other bookings have been and are all fine.
